VICTRON ENERGY - BAM010702000 - Battery Monitor BMV-702
The BMV-702 is the BMV-700 with a second, programmable input. Besides the main bank’s state of charge, time to go and ampere-hours, it can also watch the voltage of a second battery (typically the starter battery), the midpoint voltage of a series-connected bank, or the battery temperature — with its own alarm and relay settings.
This variant: standard light-grey front, standard packaging.
How it works
The shunt goes in the main battery’s negative lead and every amp in and out passes through it. The head unit reads the shunt, integrates the current over time and displays voltage, current, power, ampere-hours consumed, state of charge and time to go, and keeps a history (deepest discharge, cycles, full discharges, cumulative Ah, minimum and maximum voltage). The auxiliary input is one extra wire: to the starter battery’s positive, to the midpoint of the bank, or to the optional temperature sensor (ASS000100000, sold separately). Midpoint monitoring is the cheap early warning for a failing cell or battery in a 24 / 48 V string — a growing deviation from half the bank voltage means one half is being over- or under-charged. Temperature measurement is used for temperature-compensated capacity and for a high-temperature alarm. A programmable relay (60 V / 1 A) can drop loads or start a generator; the VE.Direct port connects to a GX device or, through the optional VE.Direct Bluetooth Smart dongle, to the VictronConnect app.
How it differs from the other BMV models
Compared with the BMV-700 you gain the auxiliary input; everything else is identical. The BMV-712 Smart is a BMV-702 with Bluetooth built in and a much lower self-consumption (< 1 mA instead of < 4 mA), at the price of a narrower supply range (6.5–70 V instead of 6.5–95 V). Choose the 702 when you have no use for Bluetooth or when you already read everything through a GX device. For 60–385 V banks see the BMV-700H / 710H Smart.
What’s in the box
Head unit with square and round front bezels and rear securing ring, 500 A / 50 mV shunt with quick-connect circuit board, 10 m RJ12 UTP cable between shunt and head unit, battery cable with 1 A slow-blow fuse for the positive connection. The temperature sensor is not included.
