VICTRON ENERGY - BAM010700000 - Battery Monitor BMV-700

The BMV-700 is Victron’s basic precision battery monitor: a panel display plus a 500 A shunt. It shows how full the battery is (state of charge in %), how long it will last at the present load (time to go) and how many ampere-hours you have used — the “fuel gauge” that a plain voltmeter cannot give you.

This variant: standard light-grey front, standard packaging.

How it works

The shunt goes in the battery’s negative lead, so every amp in and out passes through it. The head unit reads the shunt, integrates the current over time and displays voltage, current, power, ampere-hours consumed, state of charge and time to go. It keeps a history (deepest discharge, number of cycles, full discharges, average discharge, cumulative Ah drawn, minimum and maximum voltage) so you can judge how the battery is being treated. A programmable relay (60 V / 1 A) can drop non-critical loads or start a generator on a low state of charge, and the VE.Direct port connects it to a GX device or, through the optional VE.Direct Bluetooth Smart dongle, to the VictronConnect app.

How it differs from the other BMV models

The BMV-700 monitors one battery bank and has no Bluetooth built in. If you also want to watch a second battery (e.g. the starter battery), the midpoint voltage of a series bank or the battery temperature, you need the BMV-702, which has the additional input. If you want Bluetooth without a dongle and lower self-consumption, the BMV-712 Smart is the same monitor as the 702 with Bluetooth inside. For 60–385 V banks see the BMV-700H / 710H Smart.

What’s in the box

Head unit with square and round front bezels and rear securing ring, 500 A / 50 mV shunt with quick-connect circuit board, 10 m RJ12 UTP cable between shunt and head unit, battery cable with 1 A slow-blow fuse for the positive connection. Nothing else is needed for a single-battery installation.
