LiFePO4

LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate) is the most popular lithium chemistry for solar and off-grid systems. Around 80% of the capacity can be used every cycle (with occasional full discharges), delivering roughly 3000 cycles while weighing about half as much as an equivalent lead battery. Although the initial cost is higher, the lifetime cost per delivered kWh is usually the lowest. Victron Smart batteries require an external BMS.

This category contains four Victron lithium series:

• Smart battery — the classic series: integrated cell balancing and Bluetooth monitoring via the VictronConnect app. Requires an external Victron BMS (see each product page). The standard choice for solar, marine and off-grid systems.
• NG (New Generation) — the successor of the Smart series: also Bluetooth and an external BMS, but with advanced BMS communication (cell-level data, automatic firmware updates), an IP65 housing and larger systems (up to 16 batteries per BMS).
• SuperPack — has the BMS built into the battery: installs exactly like a lead-acid battery, with no external components. Ideal for simple replacements; the maximum discharge current is more limited than Smart/NG.
• Peak Power Pack — a complete pack with a built-in charger, designed for high loads of short duration (caravan movers, winches). Charges from the grid, from the alternator while driving, or from a solar panel.
